You know your child needs therapy

Having a child who needs therapy of any reason can be upsetting for any parent. However, the sooner a child starts a therapy program the better they will be when they get older. Many states know this. That is why most states have an early intervention program that children with disabilities or children at risk for learning disabilities can go to. Early intervention staff will usually assess the child, recommend and offer services to those children who meet eligibility guidelines. Usually to receive services the child must have a greater than six month delay in some area of development.

Although your child may receive services it does not mean that these services will be enough. This is why we the parents must be involved in the therapy programs. It is our responsibility as parents to work with our children and fill in the gaps that our children will need for therapy services. We need to be therapists as well as parents. Trust me after you have a child that goes through early intervention services you will learn more about child development than some teachers and most parents will ever know.
